Curriculum Choices 2023: 3rd Grade

This week, I shared our curriculum choices for our Together Subjects for 2023 and 7th Grade Curriculum Choices. Today I am going to share our choices for our 3rd Grader Thumper.  This year will be a growing year as she will get to start doing some subjects she hasn’t yet tackled as she advances in certain skills.

First, I will share the few staple subjects, that we have been using for several years now.

SONLIGHT: This year she will be working through C: Introduction to World History Year 2 of 2.  Even though she sat through this core when Mouse went through it, she is grasping it at another level, plus they have revised some of it, so she will get some new to her Read Alouds as well.

MATH U SEE: She is going to finish up Multiplication in Gamma and move onto dividing using Delta.

ALL ABOUT LEARNING: Thumper has a few lessons to complete in All About Reading Level 4.  She will also continue All About Spelling Level 2 and then start Level 3 when she is ready.

HANDWRITING: We will continue learning how to write in cursive. I do not have a formal curriculum for this, we are just winging it and so far, it is working really well.

Lastly, is what will be new this year in her school world.

INSTITUTE OF EXCELENCE IN WRITING: Writing on her own will be new to her this year, and we will be starting off using a themed based book (Bible Heroes) and slowly incorporating Fix It Grammar 1, the second half of the year.

WORLD GEOGRAPHY: While some of her world Geography will be done together as a family, I also am having her do daily World Geography by using 180 Days of Geography :3rd Grade.  I’m hoping to help improve her geography skills a bit with this daily practice.

LITERATURE: Just like wither her Big Sister Mouse, I felt we needed more in the literature department. She will also choose a few books from a list I have generated, and then she will be completing some “book report” type projects to test her reading comprehension. We will also learn some of the basic elements of literature concepts.

Look back on the blog in the next few days for our curriculum choices for Grade 7 and Grade 3. You can look at previous years’ curriculum choices 5th Grade (2021), Together 1st and 5th (2021), and Curriculum Choices 2020.
