Upcoming Literature Genre Studies from Momma Bear School Resources
With our school plans changing for next year, I saw an opportunity to create my own Literature Curriculum. It is coming together nicely, piece by piece, and I am excited to share some sneak peeks of what's to come.
Currently, the genre study is divided into two parts. Part One is Genre Literature Studies. Each Genre Literature Study will have a Doodle Notes page, lesson/activity, and essay/project (both with grading rubrics) geared toward a specific literature genre. Eventually, I hope to create individual book studies with this as well, but for now, I am laying a foundation. One or two of the genres will also include a short story unit. Currently, I have eight genre units in development for next year and ten to fifteen more planned for the future. The girls have already picked their readers for each unit. I am creating a Fractured Fairytale unit as an introduction and a month-long Author Study of Edgar Allan Poe for next year as well.
Part Two is an overview of poetry types. Similar to the Genre Units, we will discover poetry by examining the seven major types of poetry. I have planned three introductory lessons, and then we will examine a poem each week and analyze it. I am still debating a possible poetry project, but I may wait a year or so to develop it.
I hope to have various components of these units rolled out by the end of this year or at the beginning of 2026. The most significant part of this plan for the website will be a full-year, exclusive website curriculum for Literature. Currently, this exclusive is planned to include: 6 Genre Units (with Doodle Notes, Lesson/Activities, Essay, and Project), Instructions/Syllabus (with a student outline for the course, including requirements and directions), Summary Journal Projects, and Book List Suggestions.
